Dipsea Stairs Renovation Continues With Final Chance to Sponsor a Step

If you are invested in the Dipsea race and would like to pay it forward, consider this: Purchase a Dipsea step.

The Dipsea Race Foundation is in the final stages of renovating the famed Dipsea Stairs, which are comprised of 680 steps in three flights rising from Old Mill Park near the start of the Dipsea Race in downtown Mill Valley. Currently there are approximately 200 steps needing repair on the second flight that are available for sponsorship. To reserve a step with a personalized plaque, a minimum deposit of $500 is required to purchase it as part of a tax-deductible donation of $1,700 to ensure that future generations of runners and hikers can safely ascend and descend the stairs along the Dipsea Trail.

Please send your deposit -- along with your name, send your name, address, phone number and email address -- to the Dipsea Race Foundation, P.O. Box 10, Mill Valley, CA 94942.

The Dipsea Race Foundation is a charitable non-profit (501(c) 3) corporation whose mission is ”to inspire our community and beyond to support the tradition of the Dipsea Race, the maintenance of the Dipsea Trail, and the legacy for current and future generations.” It was established in 1997 to protect and promote the race and the values it represents.

The Dipsea Stairs Renovation Project began in 2007 with the remodeling of 151 steps on the third and top flight. In 2011, renovation was completed on the first flight of stairs, approximately 300 steps from Cascade Way to Millside Lane, the longest stretch of steps encompassing the Dipsea Stairs.

The 106th Dipsea Race – a 7.5 mile trail run from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach– will be held Sunday morning, June 12, 2016.
